About Sarcoidosis
Sarcoidosis

Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that affects one or more organs but most commonly affects the lungs and lymph glands. The inflammation may change the normal structure and possibly the function of the affected organ(s)
Doctors suspect sarcoidosis if you have swollen lymph nodes and abnormal chest x-ray.
To confirm sarcoid a biopsy is performed where a sample of tissue is taken, usually from the lungs or skin, and inspected under a microscope.
Sarcoidosis is caused by inflammation. Most cases of sarcoidosis are found in the lungs and lymph nodes, but it can occur in almost any organ.

If you have sarcoidosis pulmonary lung function tests will check the state of your lungs.

Other tests check other affected organs include ECG, CT scan, PET scan, eye examinations and blood tests.

Doctors don’t treat sarcoidosis unless it causes symptoms or there is risk to organs. If there are problems then Corticosteroids (prednisone) or immunosuppressant’s (azathioprine or methotrexate), can be used to treat inflammation.
